ELVO was established in 1972 as Steyr Hellas S.A. After the transfer of Austrian shares to the Greek State in 1987, the company was renamed Hellenic Vehicle Industry S.A. It is the Greek Army's largest supplier of various types of armored and civilian vehicles. The Hellenic Republic holds a 81% participation in ELVO’s share capital, while the rest is owned by Mytilineos Group and the Lainopoulos family.
